Kisumu county government will today on Friday 18th burry 69 unclaimed bodies that have lied in the county’s mortuary for a relatively long time.This follows the counties governor Anyang Nyong who had issued a notice to the public last week that all bodies lying in the mortuaries be collected and buried latest by today June Friday 18TH .
So as to assist reduce congestion amid surge in the Covid 19 related cases in the county, already the ministry of health had shortlisted Kisumu as a Covid 19 hotspot and in what seems as the efforts to assist reduce the cases,the county sought to dispose off the bodies.
Already President Uhuru Kenyatta through the ministry of health and internal security have resolved to impose curfew hours from 07:00 PM till 04:00 AM in a bid to assist reduce the surging cases in 12 counties that lies in the lake region,western Kenya and some in Rift Valley.
Kisumu county governor said “all bodies of persons who succumb within the county and their bodies reserved in the mortuaries must be collected within 72 hours for burial.”
Through the county spokesperson and legal administrator Edris Omondi,51 bodies lie in the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Refferal Hospital,16 are in the Kisumu Teaching and Refferal Hospital while 2 are in Port Florance Hospital,the bodies,some their families are not known while others belong to families who have failed to raise mortuary and hospital bills.The bodies will be laid in the county cemetery.
