Boda boda riders from Musikoma and other parts of Bungoma county are decrying over increased rate of theft cases and murder from motorbikes given to them on loan by Watu credit company.
Brian Wafula,18 and Dennis Makokha 23 all lost their lives last month by being kidnapped and killed by unknown persons and their motorbikes acquired on loan from Watu credit taken away.
Many of the boda bodas that we spoke to said that Watu credit does not mind following up the scenarios where people who own their motorbikes are attacked and killed under unclear circumstances.
For instance,Dennis was stabbed on the neck, killed and his body dumped in a water ditch at Lumboka area next to Life care Hospital, Brian was also deceived by a person claiming to be a customer from Musikoma, only to be attacked and his neck stabbed and his body dumped at Makutano.
Both their motorbikes had trackers but despite that, the company has never made any efforts to follow up the story. The boda boda operators said that new motorbikes from the company with “F” number plates are still being stolen especially those acquired on loan from that company.
The company gives out the motorbikes on loan at Ksh 15,000 where one is supposed to pay Ksh 400 daily, our efforts to reach out to Watu credit manager in Bungoma town branch were futile after the staff members in those offices refused to talk to us.
