Busia officers in collaboration with their Ugandan counterparts have recovered an AK 47 riffle with 25 rounds of ammunition.
The gun is said to have been found on Monday march 09, hidden at the ceiling board of a rented house in Bondeni area following a tip-off from the public.
According to Busia county police commander, the gun was stolen from a Ugandan guard while safeguarding a shop several months ago.
“The gun was stolen from a Ugandan guard while on duty at night,” he said.
Nyoike added that the suspects have been using the gun to carry out criminal activities at the border.
“These suspects have been using the stolen gun to carry out criminal activities at the border, both in Kenya and Uganda,”
He noted that they are investigating to ascertain the actual number of ammunitions before the theft incident.
“We must determine the number of ammunitions this gun had before it was stolen and we are already investigating,”
The police are now pursuing leads to apprehend the suspects.
Busia residents have been decrying the increasing rates of crime in the county, armed robbery being one of the most serious crimes in the county.
Traders now want the county government to intervene and ensure the town is safe for business.
“we are forced to close our businesses early because the place is not safe,” said one of the traders.
